Project Description

Multicanapa is a project financed under the PSR 2014-2020 – Sub-measure 16.1 ‘Support for the establishment and management of operational groups of the PEI on agricultural productivity and sustainability’ – and has as its overall objective the transfer of innovation for the dissemination of the cultivation of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) in Sicily with the aim of encouraging production diversification with a view to economic, energy and environmental sustainability.

The Operational Group is called ‘Canapa di Sicilia’ and, within it, sees the participation of the University of Catania, Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, as holder of the innovation; of the National Research Council (CNR), Institute for BioEconomy (IBE) for the experimentation phase of the innovation; of a network of six local farms and of Canapar, project leader.

The overall objective is to identify the varieties of industrial hemp that are best adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the Mediterranean.
